Highland Craftsmen Inc.®, the original poplar bark shingle manufacturer, began manufacturing its nationally acclaimed Bark House shingles in 1990 and didn’t stop there. Today, HC offers a full line of architectural elements for the whole home, inside and out. Our experience is vast and rests on the broad shoulders of a licensed building contractor, a forestry graduate, a quality control expert, a sales department dedicated to customer success and a full team committed to producing the best quality, sustainable, natural products that are available.

Because HC dedicates our total attention to the research, manufacturing and sales of Bark House products, we offer first hand product knowledge that you can depend on. We field and laboratory test all of our products and are the only company that monitors historic poplar bark shingled homes. This means that we understand what weather and time does to bark shingles and what installation methods work best. Direct research adds real value that customers benefit from.

From the beginning, HC’s goal has been to minimize the impact of construction by harmonizing with nature. We are a “green” building company, and proud members of the US Green Building. Through the Arbor Day Foundation, we plant a tree for every job done. HC strives constantly to improve our sustainable, green processes.

Our facility is state of the art and specifically designed for the manufacturing of Bark House materials and products. We have dedicated kilns for the drying of bark shingles and others for our interior elements. Our warehouse is climate controlled and maintains appropriate moisture levels while products await shipment. HC has an exclusive 5-point quality control program to ensure our clients enjoy the full benefits that our bark house shingles offer.
