Highland Craftsmen Inc.® is the creator of the Bark House style, which brings natural harmony to everyday living. This style integrates the historic use of rugged bark shingle siding with contemporary design. Bark House style refers not only to a building’s exterior cladding but to all decorative elements, inside and out: railings, furniture and mantels, and accessories from floor to ceiling. We supply raw materials as well as various finished products to architects, builders, craftsmen, designers and homeowners.

HC® is best known as the original manufacturer of nationally acclaimed poplar bark shingles. This was the first product we manufactured in 1990, and the staple of the Bark House style.

We are proud to be leading the way in education about historic bark houses and the new Bark House style. Homes and commercial buildings are perfectly suited to the Bark House style; the savings are real, the environmental advantages many.

Highland Craftsmen is a Green Friendly company. Most of our materials and products are 100% reclaimed. Our manufacturing processes utilize minimal energy (with the exception of man-power) in their formation. Our mission since 1990 has been “to produce a product line that is harmonious with nature (green) and minimizes the impact of construction” in an area of the Blue Ridge Mountains where development was expanding quickly. We recognized that development would increase; we wanted to offer green, indigenous, building products that were historically appropriate to the area to create more harmonious, balanced living spaces. Today we maintain the same mission and have expanded our scope. We sell Bark House Elements for the Whole Home™ in 40 states as well as internationally and see our role as a part of the larger whole. What we do is a result of what we value.
